Open BIM Platform Services

Overview

The Institute of Construction Informatics of Technische Universit├Ąt Dresden, Germany, develops BIM management services for domain and multi-models (Architectural, Engineering and Construction) and interfaces to external software for building performance analysis, e.g. regarding thermal energy consumption, structural bearing capacity, air flows from HVAC, wind loads etc. The aim is to provide powerful middleware services that allow the exchangeability of third-party software. Hence, it will be possible to use for example either EnergyPlus or TRNSYS for energy simulations and Allplan or Revit for BIM CAD design. The new aspect introduced is the semi-automatic generation of the performance analysis models from the BIM CAD model, which is in particular important when holistic optimization is intended or holistic sensitive analysis or stochastic analysis is carried out. Due to the rich information content of semantic BIM models this is a new possible opportunity.
